What our athletes say about us

Rhys

Over the past 6 years Alex has been a mentor, an idol, a coach and now a great friend of mine. I started my journey with Alex in grade 10 as a novice wannabe rider. Over the next 4 years I developed into a competitive national and international racer. This was all to do with Alex’s strong personality, communication skills and goal orientated approach to the sport. He not only developed my physical shape but mental strength to guide me through the ranks of cycling as well as high level academics. Alex is so much more than a cycling coach rather a source of interprofessional information. He was able to teach me the basics and importance of goal setting, nutrition, strength training, time management while keeping my goals in mind. He was always very approachable, listened to my concerns and would be quick to offer guidance where he could. In saying that he also let me grow in my own time. I would have no hesitation in recommending Alex as a high performance coach.

Alex was an exceptional coach for me. He introduced me to well structured training and not only made sure I was moving towards my goals but doing so in a way that was sustainable and enjoyable. I still train with the same ideas that he taught me and they’ve served me well through the junior, elite and high performance ranks both in QLD and Nationally. He’s understanding and easy to talk to which makes ironing out issues week to week easy. In addition, I think his ability to adapt and program training for events that he himself hadn’t had experience with was outstanding. Alex is still a guy I go to for advice and help because of his experience as rider and level headedness, two qualities that I really valued in his coaching.

I started my journey with Alex in 2021 as a very naive rider who was confused as to why countless hours on the bike was not equating to results. With aspirations of reaching an NRS team, my first conversation with Alex was cut throat to say the least, for the first time in my sporting career I had been told straight out that I wasn’t at the level I thought I deserved to be. 2 years later with Alex’s guidance, encouragement and support, I have surpassed any expectation I had of being a competitive state level rider and am now vying for results at the highest level internationally. Alex’s knowledge, structured but adaptable training programs and genuine love for his athletes fosters success at both a junior and high performing level. The community that Alex has been able to create within Endeavour Coaching is something that has changed my life.

After fumbling around on my bike for a number of years through cross-training for rowing and social riding, I decided at the age of 20 that I would like to take the step into competitive cycling. With no real idea of what my end goal was let alone how I was going to get there, I contacted Alex from Endeavour after a recommendation by a friend. 1.5 years later and through Alex I have progressed my riding to the point where I am ready to take on the European peloton and have podiumed at some of the country’s most prestigious races (alongside other Endeavour athletes). Alex’s balanced approach of honesty and sympathy, numbers and intuition and his general understanding of the athletes’ mindset alongside his highly evidence-based approach to coaching has let me progress to a level I never thought I had the ability to reach. Outside of performance alone, the community that surrounds Endeavour coaching is one that is great to be a part of and I have met many great friends through this network already and I’m sure there will be many more to come.

Over the past 10 or so years Alex has been a training partner, colleague, friend and now coach. Having raced at a national level previously, training under some of the nations top coaches, I was initially hesitant to begin training with Alex upon my return to the sport, not wanting jeopardize a friendship. Alex’s grace and the result of his athletes speak greater volumes to his skill and passion as a coach, than what I can type here. It is a truly rare to find a coach who genuinely cares, but also has a deep understanding of physiological principles and the real world application. Alex’s philosophy’s around the training-work-life balance are nothing short of wise beyond his years. He has taught me a lot of lessons about myself both on and off the bike along the way. If you are looking for a coach who believes in holistic training and longevity look no further. As an exercise physiologist I couldn’t recommend Alex enough. His care and diligence is second to none.

I’d never had a coach prior to Alex, but I quickly began to rely on his guidance and it remained so for 4 years. I found his management invaluable during my progress. His mentorship ensured I didn’t overtrain but at the same time I felt challenged and primed to meet the goals we had discussed. It was an open relationship where I could say how I felt and his programme catered for my lifestyle. Any schedule changes required were easily dealt with and I always felt attended to. I can highly recommend Alex to any cyclist wanting to maximise their potential.

As parents of an under 17 junior who’s made cycling his focused sport, we couldn’t be happier with Alex as a coach. The coach-athlete partnership is really important and this is where Alex has been excellent.
The individual approach and time he’s taken to get to know our son’s strengths and areas for improvement has made a big difference to both his performance and overall perspective. Alex’s attention to the school-training balance has also been really valuable.

I’m a masters athlete bouncing between B & C grades depending on events. After a serious bike accident last August which kept me off the bike for 3 months, I was looking to regain my fitness and get back into racing but I knew I needed help. I set myself a goal of qualifying for the UCI World Championships and only had 3 months to prepare. A friend recommended Alex Quirk from Endeavor Coaching. After catching up for an initial meeting we set some achievable targets and got to work.
With a very short time frame to work with, Alex set a program to target my specific needs also taking into consideration work and life responsibilities. I found the program challenging but rewarding, and the support and encouragement I received along the way was second to none. Alex managed to improve my fitness to a competitive level, and also surpass where I was before the accident!
The whole Endeavor coaching experience has been amazing with a clear an open line of communication on all sessions, plenty of support and encouragement and a kick in the ass when I needed it. If you are looking to achieve your cycling goals, I can’t recommend Alex highly enough to help you get there. It’s been by far the best coaching experience I’ve had.
