Why Test?

Measures of power and speed (such as functional threshold power or critical speed) are great measures of performance, but they tell us little about how our physiology produces that performance. Physiological tests such as lactate testing allows athletes and coaches to examine how their energy systems adapt to training and interact to drive performance. These insights enable the design of targeted, individualised and higher quality training programs and interventions.

Personal and Precise

It’s a common misnommer that lactate causes fatigue. In truth it’s a fuel that is readily consumed by slow twitch muscle fibres, but its accumulation does correlate with the onset of fatigue. This makes it a useful biomarker to track and allows for a degree of personalisation and precision that is unavailable through other means. With frequent testing it is possible to determine how you are responding to your training and identify what changes are required to make big leaps in performance.
